Hoy les invito a un viaje hasta el centro de nuestro planeta. No es un viaje fácil, para realizarlo hemos tenido que estirar nuestra imaginación hasta construir un túnel que atraviesa la Tierra de lado a lado. Nuestro objetivo es conocer cómo varía el peso de una persona a medida que nos acercamos al núcleo y, una vez allí, cumplir un sueño de juventud: ver las estrellas desde Nueva Zelanda, en las antípodas de Madrid, lugar en el que elaboramos La Ciencia Nuestra de Cada Día.
Hay fenómenos ante los cuales los realmente expertos son los niños, especialmente cuando esos fenómenos se producen ante un manjar tan tentador como un buen helado. Pero, si el helado es grande y las ganas son muchas, un gran bocado puede enfriar bruscamente el paladar y tener consecuencias en forma de dolor agudo en la frente o en las regiones temporales de la cabeza. La causa está relacionada con el cambio brusco del flujo sanguíneo y presión en los capilares del paladar y la cabeza.
Somos seres con simetría derecha-izquierda y eso nos despista al analizar la imagen del espejo. El espejo nos engaña, no nos hace girar, simplemente transforma nuestra imagen de una manera curiosa.
Un cuerpo es transparente si deja pasar la luz sin producir cambios en ella y eso es, básicamente, lo que sucede con el agua. Claro que, si es así de fácil, podríamos preguntarnos por qué no son transparentes las nubes si están formadas por gotas de agua o cristales de hielo, agua al fin y al cabo. Dos son los factores que intervienen: la luz y la materia.
Cuando hacemos una fotografía a una persona en un ambiente con mucha luz, de día, vemos los ojos de su color y la pupila como un punto negro, en cambio, cuando la hacemos en un ambiente con poca luz, de noche, con flash, algunas personas salen con los ojos rojos. Entran en juego varios factores, la apertura de la pupila, la intensidad de la luz, incluso la raza de la persona.
